Is your company using email like company@singtel.com.sg, company@pacific.net.sg or even company@starhub.net.sg?

Quite a number of companies are still using emails provided by their Internet service providers, and personally, I don’t see much value in that, except free marketing for the providers. Especially, when you printed it on your vehicle.

Those emails are not useless, but you will have much better leverage with the right email address and domain name, that will help brand your company. You can have company emails such as sales@company.com.sg or support@company.com.sg. Now, doesn’t that seems more obvious what each email is for?

If you were to use the provided emails, there is one common issue which most companies are aware of, and also the main reason why they don’t switch provider, thereby giving up a pretty good deal. And that is…

“If I change provider, I may loose the email,
what if my past customers cannot reach me?”

So, how do you mitigate that?

Here are some general steps you can take into consideration before taking up a new offer:

Keep the old email and pay for it

Buy a company domain name, web hosting and create necessary emails for your company

Start using your new emails for any online correspondences

Update all marketing materials with new emails

Inform old customers of the changes in emails

Should anyone still email to the old address, inform them of the changes

Close your account for the old email few months later

Please note that things are never perfect, when theres changes, there will definitely be some “leakage”. However, by having your own domain name and emails, it gives your company more flexibility in terms of email branding, and also the options to choose your providers anytime.

Have you ever encountered a scenario where you’re urgently in need to access the Internet, however you’re no where near a wireless hotspot? Well, I believe most of us would have…

Sometimes, we take things for granted, and never know the true value till we really need it…

My commitment to my client is to give them prompt reply to their email queries, and as well as prompt submission of their broadband applications. But, this would never have happened if I were to rely solely on wirelessSG for my broadband usage while I’m out in the field networking, and sourcing for more businesses.

Well, having hotspots with free wireless Internet access is definitely good, however, if there are too many users, you may get kicked out from the queue, and on top of that, the bandwidth can be easily sucked up by multiple users watching videos concurrently…

What if there is no wireless hotspot? You either waste time looking for one, or need to rush back to your office. Either way, it will never beat this…

Even now, as I’m writing this piece of article, I’m sipping my Chai Latte at the nearby cafe, with my trusted little Broadband on Mobile (usb modem) cum 1GB thumb drive, inserted into my laptop to access the Internet.

Now, I can never leave home without my Broadband on Mobile, my laptop is useless without one.

What is Traditional Marketing?
The objective of any marketing is creating new customers or sustain existing customer. It is a mission to create awareness of a company, services or products to the mass market by using various marketing techniques.

Traditional Marketing is a common marketing method, it emphasize mainly on the ‘Four Ps’ principles, which refers to the four factors that a marketer has to consider before launching a product or offering a service. It comprises of Product, Price, Promotion and Place.

Product: product or service offer by the company.

Price: the price that an intended customer willing to pay.

Promotion: promoting the company, products or services, includes advertising, branding, etc. This is the most import P to focus on.

Place: the process by which the product or service reaches the customer.

Traditional Marketing require a substantial time and budget to get the desired result. For it to be successful it requires constant advertising for months and it also requires a high budget, depending on the type of media the marketer is using. The following are a various media for marketing;

TV and Radio

Newspaper, Magazines, Posters and Billboards

Mailers or Flyers

Unlike Internet Marketing, Traditional Marketing is company focus, product or service based, while Internet Marketing is consumer focus, targeting consumer interest. Marketer adopting Traditional Marketing method will usually use it’s product or service unique point to differentiate itself from it’s competitors. And this method will work best with fewer competitors offering similar products or services. However in today market, every other brand’s have competitors offering the similar features and slowly this method will fade away.

In Part 2, I will talk about the differences between Traditional Marketing and Internet Marketing, benefit of Internet Marketing and why internet marketing is important
